I live locally and taught Manufacturing, which includes CNC machining, welding, CAD/CAM and design, in Orillia for 34 years, retiring June 2023. The ribbon spools, fence hooks and sled attachments you can see around the Heights are a few of the projects that were done by my students.
My wife, Kathy-Anne and two children, Matt and Jess are also patrollers at the Heights. Matt and Jess are doing their bit to bring in new patrollers, and you may see them over the next years training the next generation of patrollers, Anthony and Ivy both born the summer 2021 and Charles, born November 2023. Between the 4 of us, we have over 105 years of patrolling experience.
As a member of the Canadian Ski Patrol, I have taught Advanced First Aid, Toboggan skills and have been an instructor trainer for 44 years. I have been in leadership positions in the ski patrol starting 1979 at regional, provincial and national levels. My biggest success was co-authoring a successful Ontario Trillium grant with Kathy-Anne and Vesa Henio for $229,000 towards toboggan development and training in the Canadian Ski Patrol.
I am enjoying being your patrol leader and helping the Heights to have one of the best patrols in Canada. If you see me on the hill, please introduce yourself and join me for a ride to the top so we can get to know each other a bit.

As a young woman she worked as a server/bartender all while she attended Guelph University studying Wildlife Biology….discovering that wasn’t where her heart was she ended her uni experience in the Hotel and Food Administration Program. From there she helped her parents open an English Pub when they retired to some success. After a few trips through Canada and Europe she landed back at home in the GTA managing such establishments as Kelsey’s Roadhouse Midland, Webber’s Downtowner Barrie and Dave & Buster’s in Vaughan. After taking a break to have her family she re-entered the industry at a prestigious Private Golf Club where she honed her customer service skills and grew into the Event Coordinator when her predecessor moved on to bigger and better things (thank you Samantha, they were big shoes to fill). Finally, after a few more life changes and family relocations she ended up here at The Heights and has worked tirelessly throughout many trials, including a pandemic, to grow the social media awareness, public reputation and widen our community base. Recently married (again) she loves spending time with her husband, two teenagers, two large dogs and cat, listening to Ed Sheeran and meeting new people.

Fast forward 30+ years and Brian has made skiing and snowsports his career, teaching, coaching managing and directing snowschools and race departments at Horseshoe resort and then Craigleith Ski Club. Living in Orillia with his wife Steph, their 18yr old son Aidan and 15yr old daughter Helena, who has also started her journey as a ski instructor, made The Heights a perfect fit to come back to where it all started.
Brian is a Level 4 CSIA instructor, PL trained ACA Coach who’s proudest achievement is standing at the top of Revelstoke with his family!
